Sept 09 Gathering and Ride to the Froggies Rally

We had a very nice intimate September gathering. Small (seventeen folks) but was actually very engaging and a lot of fun. Victor Tibbs of the STAR motorcycle group came by to pay us a visit and join in on the fun. Victor's the President of the local STAR chapter located in Concord. He's become a very good friend of CA2Q.

It was another early start to the meeting as we needed to get an early start for our ride to CA2N's rally at the Long Barn lodge near Angels Camp. Everything was going smoothly until we got to the Wing Nut nomination. After last month's ride to "Neal Graham's BBQ in the Woods"; Steve or Jacque Foster and their calamity of events were almost pre-ordained to win the Wing Nut. But "NO!!!", it was another railroad of the CD. At least that's how I see it. Some would say "he had to go and stick his foot in his mouth again" with a "honey shot" at Shirley. Of course, it wasn't so much Shirley as much as all the "ladies" in the room taking offense. I shouldn't go through the details but it had something to do with Shirley stating that someone had observed my bike looking to have a "wide load" and I said was Shirley on when the observation was made? Okay... I deserve it.

The ride to Long Barn was pretty uneventful and pleasant. I had not been there before but it's quite a nice place. An idealic area to have a big group gathering. The temperature was far cooler than the Manteca/Oakdale area we had gone through. I don't know if it was the temperature or the wooded setting, but Shirley and I felt really calm and at the same time invigorated. Shirley and I spent a lot of time chatting with a lot of friends from around the State that it felt a lot like a District Rally.

The Froggies had a really great turnout with pre-registration being over two hundred. A lot of folks from down south came up for the rally including 1M (The "Moos"), they took first for the most number of members from one chapter. Linda Androws had quite a haul when the game prizes were announced. I recall her picking a couple of oversized Froggy pillows and one or two more items. Shirley and I struck gold with the raffle and snag one of Ruth Burke's watercolor originals. Ruth is very talented and I've always admired her work so needless to say, Shirley and I were quite happy.
